Does High Point pick up tree limbs and yard waste?

Yes for normal yard maintenance, and no for the debris from a tree removal. High Point collects grass clippings, leaves, limbs and brush once a week on your regular collection day, starting at 6 a.m. Limbs and brush have to be bundled and tied in lengths of four feet or less and weigh no more than 50 pounds, or go in a city-approved black yard waste rollout cart or paper bags. The city no longer accepts yard waste in plastic bags and no longer collects large, loose, untied limbs at the curb, and it says outright that the program is intended for the regular maintenance of a property, not the removal of an entire tree or lot clearing. That last sentence is the one that decides most questions: the wood from a removed oak is not going out with the yard waste, which is why haul-off belongs in the quote.

The rules that get people a missed pickup

Almost every skipped collection comes down to one of four things, and all four are easy to avoid once you know them.

What happens to removal debris instead

A mature tree produces far more material than most people picture, and it does not arrive in four-foot bundles. A single large hardwood can fill a chip truck several times over once the canopy is processed, and the trunk sections are too heavy to move without equipment.

That is why haul-off is a line item on a real quote rather than an afterthought. When it is not included, the wood stays on your property and the cleanup becomes yours.

Where the line falls

Use the weekly collection for what it is designed for, and treat anything bigger as part of the tree job.

Curbside collection or part of the job
DebrisWhere it goes
Pruned limbs from routine trimmingBundled, weekly collection
Leaves and grass clippingsCart or paper bags, weekly collection
Brush from a hedge or a small shrubBundled, weekly collection
Everything from a tree removalHauled off by the crew, in the written price
Lot clearing materialHauled off or chipped, never curbside

Why quotes for the same job can be far apart

The debris plan is where two quotes on the same tree separate. One assumes you will handle the wood, the other prices a clean property at the end of the day. Ask specifically whether the trunk sections, the brush and the chips are leaving, because that is usually the difference in the number you are comparing.

Common questions

Can I leave the limbs loose at the curb?⌄
No. The city stopped collecting large, loose, untied limbs. Bundle and tie them, keep them under four feet and 50 pounds.
What about plastic bags?⌄
The city will not collect yard waste in plastic bags, and it has said repeated use can bring a fine after a grace period. Use paper bags, the black cart or tied bundles.
Can I put the wood from a removal out a few bundles at a time?⌄
That is against the intent of the program, which the city states is regular property maintenance and not whole-tree removal. It also takes months. Have the crew take it.
Who do I call about a missed collection?⌄
Environmental Services at the city, 336-883-3111, on the yard waste line.
